About Us
Charge For Change is an environmental justice nonprofit born from urgency, built through grassroots energy, and powered by the communities most impacted by environmental inequality. We advocate for climate solutions that center people—not profits—and champion the transition to electric vehicle (EV) infrastructure in inner-city neighborhoods.
Founded by environmental advocates, public health professionals, and community organizers, Charge For Change works at the intersection of climate equity, clean energy, and public health. Our vision is bold but clear: a future where clean air is not a luxury, but a right—and where every neighborhood, regardless of zip code, has access to the tools and technologies that shape a sustainable tomorrow.
Why We Exist
Transportation pollution is one of the largest contributors to greenhouse gas emissions in the United States. Its impact, however, is not evenly distributed. Historically redlined and disinvested communities—often majority Black and Brown—have been systematically exposed to higher levels of air pollution from highways, industrial traffic, and lack of green transit alternatives.
EVs offer one of the most powerful tools in the fight against climate change. But the benefits of EV adoption—especially access to reliable, convenient charging infrastructure—have remained concentrated in wealthier, suburban areas. Charge For Change exists to dismantle that imbalance.
We believe environmental justice means ensuring all communities, especially those historically left out of environmental progress, are front and center in clean energy solutions.
Our Values
- Equity First: Every initiative begins with the question—how does this serve the most impacted?
- Community Power: We don’t bring solutions to communities—we build them with communities.
- Accountability & Action: We are driven by outcomes, not optics. The health and well-being of our neighborhoods is our bottom line.
- Intersectional Justice: Environmental justice is racial justice, health justice, and economic justice.
What We Do
- Advocate for city- and state-level EV charging investment in frontline communities
- Partner with youth groups to build climate leadership and awareness
- Host town halls, teach-ins, and public demonstrations to educate and mobilize
- Collaborate with clean tech companies to pilot charging station installations in high-impact zones
We are more than an organization—we are a movement of parents, students, leaders, elders, and everyday citizens. We are driven by a shared goal: to electrify the fight for environmental justice and leave no community behind.
